Witnesses Describe Coronado Bridge Road Rage Confrontation

Phillip M. Eggers, 24, was in court Thursday. He is accused of assault after allegedly deliberately hitting a motorcycle in May on the bridge.

The man facing assault charges because he allegedly rammed a motorcycle while driving on the San Diego-Coronado Bridge faced a preliminary hearing Thursday in San Diego, reports 10News.com.

Phillip Michael Eggers, 24, of El Cajon, appeared in court to face the motorcycle riders, Rodney and Roxanne Finnell, a little over a month after the May 18 incident that left them injured. Police said the crash was spurred by road rage.

Rodney Finnell told the court that Eggers had cut him off in his BMW. A witness testified, according to 10 News, that the Finnells drove close to the BMW, making their displeasure known and giving Eggers the finger.

Eggers then is accused of swerving into the motorcycle, knocking the Finnells to the ground.

“I watched the driver of the BMW look, make eye contact and then turn the wheel … into them," the witness testified.

An off-duty San Diego police officer saw the incident and pursued Eggers into Coronado so city police could arrest him.

Eggers faces another court date in July. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
