Vegas Bray Pleads Not Guilty to Shooting Ex-Boyfriend

She faces 50 years to life in prison if she is found guilty of shooting Victor Saucedo, retired from the Navy, nine times Tuesday.

Vegas Bray, 24, pled not guilty to first-degree murder charges Friday at the South Bay Courthouse in Chula Vista.

Bray is accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend Victor Saucedo, formerly of the Navy, nine times with a .38 revolver Tuesday afternoon at his Imperial Beach apartment.

Saucedo's family and Assistant District Attorney Harrison Kennedy said Bray continuously harassed him, while Bray's family believe she has been made a villiian in the media.

"This was the ultimate act of obsession," Kennedy said when requesting Bray be denied bail. "They did have an intimate relationship for a period of time but broke it off after she became jealous of the mother of his young boy."

Kennedy argued that Bray presented "a clear and present danger to the public" but Judge Katherine Bacal set bail at $2 million.

The two met while serving in the Navy and started dating in 2010. The relationship came to an end in late 2011. That's when the vandalism began, Kennedy said.

Kennedy said Bray slashed Saucedo's tires, smeared paint on his door and performed other forms of vandalism "to get his attention."

Bray, of San Diego, was never charged due to a lack of evidence, sheriff officials said.

A day before the shooting, while together at Saucedo's apartment, "There was talk of rekindling their relationship, and Mr. Saucedo was not willing to commit to a long-term committed relationship that Ms. Vegas desired."

The next day, around 3:30 p.m., Bray returned with a gun, Kennedy alleged.

Shots were heard in two successions, first six in a row, then three, the assistant DA said. Since the weapon that killed Saucedo was a .38 revolver that can only take six shots without reloading, the gun was reloaded and fired again, he said.

If convicted, Bray faces 50 years to life in state prison, Kennedy said.

Bray called 911 from the apartment at the time of the shooting.

"Initial reports were that it was some kind of suicide," Kennedy said, but after an investigation took place, Bray was arrested later that day.

Deputy Public Defender Stephanie Slattery told the judge that Bray was a lifelong San Diegan and college student who had no criminal record and worked as a waitress at a Lemon Grove strip club.

Bray's grandmother Brenda Moreno believes her granddaughter has been misrepresented in the media.

"They're bringing up all the negative aspects about her, whatever they can find. She's ex-military like Victor was ex-military," she said. "She served her country. I haven't heard that one time in the news."

"It's like he's up here and she's down there," Moreno said.

"They did have a relationship that was an off-on relationship. She was not stalking him. He would call her and she would come over," she said. ""I don't know where he's getting this stalking stuff from. Would you let a stalker in your house?"

Moreno said she spoke to her granddaughter a few times a week and the two are very close.

"She doesn't have a bad character. And I know her very well," Moreno said, adding that she often helped her mother pay her bills.

Bray's brother Santiago Rubio made a point of clarifying that his sister wasn't a stripper at Little Darling's in Lemon Grove.

"She was a waitress, and even they can't believe it, cause when she was there, she was the sweetest person ever, always smiling, the nicest person you could ever be around. She never had any problems with anybody," he told reporters outside the courthouse.

Rubio said his sister is not the "monster" she's been made out to be. "She's an angel," he said. "She's the best thing that's ever happened to me."

Bray is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 29 for a readiness conference and preliminary hearing Nov. 1.

Oh wow! Really?! Moreno says, "like he's up here and she's down here." She killed my friend!!! She doesn't deserve to be acknowledge for sh*t! She needs to rot is what she needs to do!

She killed a person, angels don't take a fully loaded gun and shoot an unarmed person then RELOAD the gun and shoot again! Her family seems delusional and needs to wake up and realise their "angel" has evidence against her proving she's nothing but a heinous, psychotic murderer... RIP to Victor and prayers to his family and young son.

Wow I think they mean a evil angry angel! Jealous can change a persons personally especially, when they can't have what they want. To Victor lawyers open Bray facebooks account....lets see what really was in her wicked, crazy, mind .....

She's not guilty until proven....I know he's gone & it's a sad thing because his son no longer has a Father but none of ya'll was there to know any of these things...Was you present when she slash his tired? Was you present when she smears paint on his door? Was you there when she came over or when he called her? None of us know anything but he said she said......let the evidence prove itself....Why be ugly when the damage is already done...Victor is not coming back.... :( Why get out of character when the proof is not in the pudding just yet.....All we could do is pray that we get the real killer...........I pray for both families

A woman who acts this way may have been lied to for a long period of time. Who knows what really happened, but what I do know is that it takes a lot of bullshit from a man to make a woman this angry, the victim has to take some responsibilty in placing himself in this situation. For a woman to be harrasing a man for months means that the he must have been leading her on, stringing her along, and lying to her all along. Man just simply need to be honest with woman no matter how bad the truth is.

Well said WOWZER, stick to the facts ONLY!
Stop The Violence October 22, 2012 at 03:23 AM
How do you know that isn't what he did? He could have been completely honest whether she accepted it or not is not his fault. A woman gets lied to and used by a man every day but you dont see them going out there killing them!!! This thing being called an angel by her family should have see what she was worth and moved on. That fact that she didn't shows she sees herself as worthless. Yes the truth will come out but I doubt the victim VICTOR cause HE IS the victom NOT her did not purchase life insurance known how fucken crazy she was and then inviting her over. Even the video of her arraignment is proof that she doesn't feel not one bit of remorse for her EVIL ACT. People need to stop trying to make Victor out to be some heartless manipulative man cause he wasn't he has always been straight forward and honest about everything and anything.

Only GOD knows if he did. I agree that not every woman reacts this way....not saying she did it. If a real man feel like they are in danger, a real man will do everything in his power to protect himself. For her to get that close and into his apartment.....their must have still been some trust. Didnt Victor teach her how to use a gun? Didnt Victor take her to the shooting range? I believe he did. You are a victime of your own enviroment. You live by the gun, you die by the gun. Instead of Victor purchasing life insurance, he should have purchased protection.
Stop The Violance October 22, 2012 at 04:22 AM
The cops didnt give him that protection he was looking for. Victor would never harm a woman physically so he was doing things legally. Now if law enforcement didnt do anything about it thats an entirely different story. Yes you are right they used to go to the shooting range when they USED to date but that doesn't mean he believed guns were the right protection. That doesn't give her the right to shoot him. If he didn't purchase protection I'm assuming you mean a gun by protection was for the safety of his Son. If he didn't act on a bunch of her stalking acts was due to his son. His son was the most important aspect of his life so he would never do anything that could jeopardize his safety. He was actually moving but he never got the chance to do so thanks to brays act. He did not trust her not one bit just like you say we should focus on the facts. bray is the only one alive to create or give her side of the story. Victor isn't so this will be based on the evidence and her story. Which I think is unfair but GOD will determine her fate and I hope it's LIFE in PRISON.

She will be found guilty because she IS! She is a jealous & insecure creature. To plead not guilty and have called 911 saying it was suicide? Nice try, but EVERYONE who knew Victor knows he would NOT even think about doing such a thing to himself! & no one can shoot themselves six times and reload and shoot three more times. What she did was selfish and senseless! She is NO ANGEL! She is a DEVIL! An "angel" posts pictures of herself showing her "ass?" Or posts pictures of "kill them all"? She didn't think about anyone but HERSELF when she went on this rampage! Not about his son, or let alone her OWN family! She will pay- 50 YEARS TO LIFE! WE LOVE YOU VICTOR <3 R.I.P. Justice WILL be SERVED!

On vegas's Facebook cover page (baby bray) it says "kill them all" that was put up a few days before the shooting!!! I think the lawyers need to look into that! the girl was freakin crazy!! RIP Victor.

This is a tragedy, ME, and we welcome your thoughts, but please do not use profanity. If you want to re-post, please do, but I've deleted your earlier comment.

This was obviously the act of a woman being manipulated by a man. To make her out to be a stalkers is desperate. I do not condone her decision and she will be judged by God when her time comes. I pray for peace for both families in this tragedy.

Ms. Bray- is undercover psychopath, who did harm to the victim not only to his family, those who knew him and to the community. Brey had every opportunity to walk away, get help for her obession/pschopath, instead she choose to ingore her issues to get help, that could have well resulted in a different outcome. Instead she took it upon her self to b retarted to kill an innocent victim. Brey- went to the intent harm Mr. Saucedo that resulted in his death. Brey- u will rot in hell, everyday u spent in jail/prison: u will disintegrate even more and for this hope u have the courage too end yr own life by cutting yr ciculation off or by cutting one of yr main alteries so you'll bleed to death. You took the oath to protect yr country, I wouldn't trust u one but too. The world is a better place now yr not around to do any of that!! Brey- rot in hell and do the prison guards a favor so they have one less animal to feed. Justice will b served for the victims family, friends, community and most of all his children. RIP
