Update: Two Incidents Create Snarl on 4th Street

Late afternoon jam hit after cars blocked lanes on the bridge and a bicyclist was hit by a car.

Update, 10:30 p.m. The fire department transported the victim injured at 4th and Orange to Rady Children's Hospital shortly before 5 p.m. The hospital did not release information on the victim's condition, but confirmed that a patient with injuries from being hit by a car had been brought in for treatment.

The Sig Alert was cancelled at 4:36 p.m., about 45 minutes after the CHP reported that three cars were blocking lanes in eastbound traffic on the bridge.

Traffic backed up on 4th Street near the bridge and on Orange Avenue late Friday afternoon following two separate incidents, one on the bridge and one involving a pedestrian.

The first involved the closure of at least one eastbound lane of the bridge, and led to the declaration of a Sig Alert by the CHP, according to a Coronado police spokeswoman.

The delay was expected to last from 30 minutes to an hour, she said.

Soon after, at 4:34 p.m., a vehicle hit a bicyclist at 4th and Orange.

Firefighters were still at the scene at 5 p.m. and it was unclear whether the victim would be transported to a hospital for further treatment.

A Patch contributor who monitors scanner broadcasts said the victim was a child, and the incident could involve major injuries. Division Chief Perry Peake would not confirm the victim's age or condition, citing federal disclosure laws.
