Update 4:55 p.m. Thursday.
The California Highway Patrol responded to a wreck reported at 3:30 p.m. and issued a traffic alert to deal with the resulting backup.
“(Eastbound) 75 at midspan # 1 lane blocked until further notice,” the CHP reported on its accident web log at 3:49 p.m. Within an hour though, a CHP traffic map showed traffic flowing easily in the westbound lanes and slow-and-go, but moving, in eastbound lanes.
Initially, traffic was blocked in both the number 1 and 2 lanes according to the log, and partially in the westbound lanes because of emergency vehicles.
A second wreck, on Interstate 5 near the bridge, was reported at 4:08 p.m. A tow truck was summoned, but southbound traffic was backed up.
Coronado police assisted with the bridge incident. This is the second day in a row that a mid-afternoon wreck blocked traffic on the bridge.
In Wednesday's incidents, two crashes were reported and were cleared off the bridge within an hour.
