Police Search for Man Who Fled Late Evening Traffic Stop

Man fled onto golf course after stop near toll plaza.

Coronado police searched for a male Sunday after he fled following a traffic stop near the San Diego-Coronado Bridge toll plaza.

A dispatcher said the incident began as an officer was writing the man a ticket after stopping him in the east bound lanes of 4th Street. He ran toward the Municipal Golf Course, where officers, joined by San Diego police, searched unsuccessfully for him around 10 p.m.

The city later released a description, saying the man was white or a light-skinned black man, 5'10'' and about 160 pounds, and was dressed in a black T-shirt and grey shorts.

That differed from the initial description on the police scanner, when he was described as Hispanic, 5'8 and 175 pounds, wearing dark clothing.

At one point officers called for a look for the man along the shore near the golf course and noted that the pro shop and course restrooms still needed to be searched.

A Sheriff's helicopter also aided in the search, according to the city.
