Police Catch Bicycle Thief in Coronado

Police arrested a 50-year-old San Diego man for misdemeanor bicycle theft on the 500 block of F Avenue.

Coronado Police arrested an alleged bicycle thief on Wednesday morning after receiving yet another report of theft.

Police said a resident confronted a man stealing a locked bicycle in the carport of a condominium complex on the 500 block of F Avenue at 8:30 a.m. After the confrontation, the alleged thief left the scene on the stolen bicycle and the resident immediately called police to report the crime, according to police.

After two hours of searching, officers located the John H. Watters on the 100 block of A Avenue. Officers detained the man and he was positively identified.

Watters, 50, was arrested for misdemeanor bicycle theft. Police said Watters, of San Diego, had bolt cutters and the theft was caught on surveillance cameras.

Residents are reminded to lock their bicycles with a u-lock and register their bicycles for free at the Coronado Police Department or online at nationalbikeregistry.com.
