One-Time Coronado Sailor Dies in Theater Rampage

Two men connected to the Navy were among the dead in the Aurora, CO. shooting spree.

Among the 12 dead in was a Navy veteran who was stationed in Coronado for a time.

Jonathan Blunk, reports NBC7, a 26-year-old father of two, served aboard the USS Nimitz. He is one of those who died who is being credited with saving the lives of companions by throwing himself in front of them to protect them from gunfire.

“He always wanted to be a hero,” his estranged wife told the station.

Blunk served in the Gulf in three tours, another friend told CBS8. He graduated from high school in Reno.

Petty Officer 3rd Class James Larimer, a native of Chicago suburb Crystal Lake, also died in the rampage. He was stationed at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora.

The alleged gunman, James Holmes, who graduated from Westview High School in Rancho Penasquitos, is due in court in Aurora, CO., Monday, reports Yahoo News.

We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
