Man Seen Jumping from Coronado Bridge

Highway Patrol units were called to the bridge Monday afternoon.

A man jumped from the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge Monday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol dispatchers.

A CHP unit was called to the bridge at 3:50 p.m. A white man wearing a blue windbreaker and black jeans was reported walking along the bridge. Traffic slowed down as drivers spotted the pedestrian.

Dispatchers reported on the CHP website at 3:51 p.m. that the man stopped, looked over and catapulted himself headfirst over the rail.

According to the CHP website, San Diego police were investigating where the man jumped based on information provided by his daughter. Police requested a sheriff’s helicopter to search the area, with assistance from the Coast Guard.

No other information was immediately available.
