Man Arrested on Suspicion of Killing His Brother, a Navy Officer

Police are holding the man, 21, who is accused of stabbing Jonathan Tenorio Sunday in his Mission Valley home.

A young man was in custody today on suspicion of fatally stabbing his brother – a Navy officer according to reports –  in the victim's Mission Valley apartment.

Zachary Castro Tenorio called police about 6:20 a.m. Sunday to report the death of his older brother in the 700 block of Camino de la Reina, according to San Diego police Lt. Ernie Herbert.

Once there, officers and medics confirmed the death of Jonathan Tenorio, 25, inside his apartment, Herbert said in a statement released this morning.

In an earlier statement, Herbert said the victim was found inside his bedroom and that the death was reported by a roommate.

NBC-7 reports that the dead man is a 2012 graduate of the Naval Academy and was stationed aboard the USS Bunker Hill, stationed at Naval Base San Diego. He was from Guam, according to the station and is the son-in-law of former Sen. Frank Blas Jr.

Pacific News Center spoke with Joe Tenorio about his son's death, and his travels to San Diego to claim his remains. He last touched base with his late son shortly before the officer's body was found around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Zachary Tenorio was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into San Diego Central Jail early Sunday evening, according to online jail records, which also showed the suspect was being held without bail pending arraignment Wednesday.

The motive for the slaying was unclear.
