Ex-Yacht Club Official Pleads Not Guilty in Sex Case

Chula Vista man is accused of committing lewd acts on a child at his home.

 

A 71-year-old man accused of molesting a girl at his Chula Vista home pleaded not guilty today to three counts of committing a lewd act with a child.

Thomas Aubrey Garrett, whose one-year tenure with the Coronado Yacht Club ended in 2010, was ordered held on $350,000 bail.

A bail review hearing is scheduled Thursday at the South Bay Courthouse for the defendant, who faces 11 years in state prison if convicted, said Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Ocain.

Garrett was arrested Friday on a warrant stemming from accusations made last year by the alleged victim's mother.

Judge Katherine Bacal set a readiness conference for Feb. 16 and a preliminary hearing for April 30.
