Officers Conduct DUI Sweep in South Bay

Coronado officers aid in weekend crackdown.

A weekend crackdown in the South Bay resulted in eight drunken driving arrests and citations for 33 underage drinkers, police said today.

Sunday's arrests and citations resulted from two operations
involving officers from Coronado, Chula Vista, National City and San Diego.

The Chula Vista Police Department said in a statement that patrol officers hit Imperial Beach and Chula Vista roadways in search of suspected drunken drivers.

During the patrols, 35 motorists were pulled over, 20 of whom were
given field sobriety tests. Eight of the motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, and one was cited for driving with an
open container of alcohol, the statement said.
