The undercover detective has been a member of the Coronado Police Department for eight years, said Commander Michael Lawton.

A Coronado narcotics detective who is currently undercover was nominated by the Coronado Police Department as its candidate for the San Diego Scottish Rite Center's Officer of the Year Award.

Police have asked that his name not be mentioned in this article but Commander Michael Lawton said the CoPD is proud of the work he has done to keep drugs off the streets of Coronado and other American cities.

The San Diego Scottish Rite has given awards to San Diego law enforcement agencies for 21 years.

This year's awards ceremony was held July 24 at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Mission Valley.
