Coronado Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A motorcycle rider who was fatally injured when he crashed on a freeway transition ramp and was struck by a pickup truck near the Stockton neighborhood on Christmas Day was identified Thursday as a 20-year-old Coronado man, authorities said.

The rider, whose name was not immediately released, was riding his 2013 Ducati Monster west on state Route 94 about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.

A witness told investigators that the biker headed onto the transition ramp to state Route 15 at about 60 mph, although signage posted on the ramp recommends a speed of 30 mph, according to the dispatcher.

The rider hit the brakes on a curve in the roadway, skidded into a raised concrete barrier and was thrown over it onto state Route 94, the dispatcher said. He was then struck by an eastbound Nissan Titan.
