Update: Coronado Victim of Fatal Fall Identified as Ronald Frank Wood

Medical Examiner's Office says Wood was sailing with friends in San Diego Bay.

Updated at 8:30 p.m. Sunday with name of victim.

The county Medical Examiner's Office on Sunday identified the 57-year-old Coronado man who died when he fell off his sailboat in San Diego Bay as Ronald Frank Wood.

An autopsy was pending earlier on the victim, who was sailing with two friends near National City when he fell overboard about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, according to the Medical Examiner's Office. He apparently lived on the sailboat.

The passengers on the 36-foot “La Paloma” radioed for help but were unable to handle the boat well enough to get the man out of the water, according to reports.

A U.S. Coast Guard crew was alerted, and U.S. Naval Security and San Diego Harbor Police recoved the body.

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
