Coronado Helps With South Bay DUI Crackdown

Three operations net 10 arrests and multiple citations.

UPDATE: Other checkpoints throughout San Diego over July 4th weekend led to the arrests of 46 people on DUI charges, and impounds of 35 vehicles for various offenses, according to San Diego police Officer Mark McCullough. More than 3,000 cars passed through the checkpoints. Funding for the efforts was provided by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

 

CHULA VISTA - Ten motorists face drunken driving charges following a holiday weekend crackdown targeting repeat offenders in Chula Vista, Imperial Beach and other South Bay areas, authorities said.

Three separate operations were conducted by personnel from the Coronado, San Diego, Chula Vista and National City police departments, as well as from the San Diego County sheriff's and probation departments.

The motorists, whose names were not released, were arrested between Saturday and Monday, said Chula Vista police Officer Rusty Nelson.

One of the 10 motorists was also arrested on suspicion of child endangerment because three young children were in the alleged offender's vehicle, Nelson said.

In addition to the DUI arrests, 37 vehicles were confiscated from drivers without valid licenses and impounded, and another 23 drivers were cited for other violations, Nelson said.
