Cop, Firefighter To Go Bald For Rady Children's Hospital

The duo are among public safety officials across the county who will shave their heads Sunday to benefit pediatric cancer research. You can join in by sponsoring them.

Coronado police officer Jordan Good and firefighter David Pepsny will give up their hair for a good cause Sunday, as they represent the community by having their heads shaved to support children's cancer research.

The event, at Sport Clips, 4941 Clairemont Drive in Clairemont Town Square, begins at 11 a.m.

Good and Pepsny are among about 40 other public safety officials in the area joining in to benefit the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children's Hospital.

In addition to the Coronado departments, other agencies to be represented include the San Diego Police Department, San Diego County Sheriff's Department, Carlsbad police, Miramar Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol.

You can help – and keep all your hair too – by going to Good's and Pepsny's sponsorship pages on the Be Brave and Shave event site to pledge your support.

Good is currently leading in donations in the fundraiser, with $1,455 in pledges, more than a quarter of the way toward his goal of raising $5,000. Sponsor the officer here.

Aside from the goal of raising thousands to support cancer research, Diane Kendrick of the Rady Children's Hospital Foundation, said the shaved heads help show  solidarity to the ailing children who are forced to lose their hair.

“It's a great statement to make in support of these kids,” she said.

The event also will include music by law enforcement band Title-18, visits by children who are ailing or in remission and drawings for prizes.

To register, donate or learn more information about the event and the officers and firefighters involved, see the fundraiser's main page. Online registration ends Thursday, but donations will continue to be accepted through next week, Kendrick said.
