Community Sirens to Go Off at 10:30 a.m.

City will conduct a routine test of its emergency systems Friday morning.

Be aware: If you hear sirens Friday it is only a test, not an actual emergency.

The Coronado Fire Department will test the city’s Emergency Siren Warning System at 10:30 a.m.

All three sirens – located at the Village Fire Station, Glorietta Bay Park and the Coronado Cays Fire Station – will be activated to ensure they are in top working order.

The system dates to 2002 and is intended to be heard throughout the community in case residents need to be notified of a true emergency.

The city also took advantage of the test to remind residents that in a real emergency they should:

  • Remain calm and tune to AM 600 (KOGO) to receive specific instructions, since the County of San Diego’s Office of Emergency Services is responsible for providing updates to local media after being briefed by city officials.
  • Be aware of the AlertSanDiego system. Through the system, local authorities send telephone notifications and instructions to residents and businesses affected by an emergency or disaster.

The system uses the region's 911 database, provided by telephone companies, to reach all landlines and registered cell phones or email addresses.
