Update: Officials Note ‘Suspicious’ Vehicles, But Say There's No Danger

Police, school and military reps discussed Sunday and Monday incidents at Silver Strand Elementary PTA meeting Friday.

Update, 6:30 p.m. Friday: The school district's Assistant Superintendent Richard Erhard, who attended the meeting, said on Sunday residents spotted a motorist in a van videotaping a home in the neighborhood. Police have a description of the vehicle and the license number and are investigating. The following day another car was spotted that residents feared didn't belong in the neighborhood, but the motorist left before anyone could approach to ask questions.

Police continue to investigate. There is no “threat to schools, in anyway, shape or form,” Erhard said.

In addition to Erhard, the officials at the meeting included Capt. Yancy Lindsey of Naval Base Coronado and police Cmdr. Michael Lawton.

School district officials on Friday will discuss reports of two suspicious vehicles spotted in military housing earlier this week.

The information will be provided as part of Silver Strand Elementary School's regularly scheduled PTA meeting, according to a late afternoon email sent to parents by district Superintendent Jeffrey Felix.

The Coronado Police Department, Navy housing officials and school administrators will attend.

Lea Corbin, a police spokeswoman, said two suspicious vehicles were spotted and reported Sunday afternoon and Monday morning near military housing off the Silver Strand.

The calls remain under investigation. Police want to inform parents about what is being done, Corbin said.

“There's no immediate threat at this point,” she added.
