Issue: What $5,000 Project Would Best Improve Your Neighborhood?

Voice of San Diego announces monetary prize for what it calls the Politifest Idea Tournament.

A penny for your thoughts?  Nah. How about $5,000 for your idea?  Voice of San Diego has announced that monetary prize for what it calls the Politifest Idea Tournament.

“Instead of individuals competing for the most innovative solution to a local problem, we’re inviting community groups to vie for funding of a worthwhile neighborhood project,” said the San Diego nonprofit site, which plans a renewal of its political fair Aug. 3.

Submissions are due June 30, and the winner will be awarded a $5,000 grant to “fund that project presented by our partners at the Malin Burnham Center for Civic Engagement,” Voice says, adding:

We invite you and your community to band together to present your idea, whether it’s a community garden, a needed design for a special new park or monument, a new streetlight or a much-needed crosswalk.

This sparks an idea of our own: What small project would you like community groups doing in YOUR neighborhood?  What efforts have you been involved in that deserve our attention?  Share your thoughts in the comments.
