Latino Film Festival Kicks Off This Week With Over 150 Films

The 21st annual San Diego Latino Film Festival kick off this week and as usual, the biggest problem for attendees will be trying to see all the films they want to see in a limited amount of time.

This year’s festival will feature more than 150 films – from movies to shorts to documentaries. The  films come from all over Latin American, Mexico, Spain and the U.S. and there’s a variety for everyone’s taste.

Some of the highlights from a packed schedule:

200 Cartas --  A comedy about a New York comic book artist who falls in love with a mysterirous Puerto Rican woman and then travels to Puerto Rico to chase her down.

Amores PeligrososA steamy Colombian film about a woman’s affair with man that leads to danger and violence.

Avenues – A drama about a recently released convict who returns to his gang-plagued Los Angeles neighborhood and struggles to rebuild his life and be reunited with his young daughter.

Cásese quien pueda – A comedy from Mexico about a spoiled young woman who gets lost in a jungle while a journey to save her wedding and stumble into an unexpected romance.

Cesar’s Last Fast – Using archival footage and interviews, this documentary takes viewers inside the last act of protest of famed labor leader Cesar Chavez

Dame tus ojos – A road trip thriller following two young women being chased by the cops and a media circus.

Sombras de azul – A young woman trying  to overcome her grief over her brother’s suicide travels to Cuba and discovers romance.

Water & Power – Two brothers, nicknamed “Water” and “Power” clash on opposite sides of the law. San Diego theatergoers may remember that Latino theater group “Culture Clash” presented this as a play at the San Diego Rep theater a few years ago.
