Poll: Which Magical Millionaire Should Buy the San Diego Padres?

John Moores puts the MLB team up for sale for the second time after Jeff Moorad falls through.

John Moores is putting the San Diego Padres up for sale again after Jeff Moorad’s effort to buy the team fell through. Moores said Tuesday he has hired some investment bankers to advise on the sale, which could take a year. Let’s save them some time. Who might be the San Diego version of the L.A. group led by Magic Johnson that bought the Dodgers for $2 billion?

The coolest owner would be Tony Gwynn, though I doubt he has the interest.

I'm sure he has the interest...I doubt he has the money. But you have the right idea. We need someone that loves Baseball and doesn't look at it like a Wal-Mart store that has to be run as cheaply as possible...

Funny thing is I had Tony Gwynn on my original list, but he got bumped by some other folks. Bill Walton may not be a millionaire, but he certainly knows a few, and Magic, too!

Too bad the MLB owners will block Mark Cuban...he would be a GREAT owner--for the fans!

He's actually the first name I thought of when I saw the poll...Maybe if he surrounded himself with some baseball guys that the owners loved he might stand a chance...
