Act of Valor did what the Navy intended this year, shining a spotlight on the heroism of the Navy's elite forces.
Stars Earn Stripes, a reality show that debuted Monday to average ratings, might be a different story.
The NBC show, hosted by retired General (and former presidential candidate) Wesley Clark, features one-time special forces operatives, including Navy SEALs Brent Gleeson and author Chris Kyle, coaching eight celebrities in a Survivor-like competition.
The network bills the show as a vehicle “that pays homage to the men and women who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces and our first-responder services.”
But several Nobel Peace Prize winners, including Bishop Desmond Tutu, and retired service members have criticized the show, saying it trivializes war and wastes time focusing on celebrities when it could instead feature those who have made sacrifices in Afghanistan and Iraq.
