Rear Admiral Theodore Lockhart, 75, Dies; Once Headed Local Command

The Massachusetts native was commander of the the South Atlantic Forces after leading the Surface Warfare Officers School in Coronado.

Rear Admiral Theodore Lockhart, who once headed a Surface Warfare Officers School command in Coronado, died July 24 of ALS-related complications. He was 75.

The Massachusetts native completed 32 years of service in the Navy in 1993, according to Chadwick Funeral Service.

He served aboard several ships, including the USS John W. Weeks, USS John Paul Jones, USS Corry. USS Sterrett, USS Observer, USS Paul F. Foster, and he was the commissioning commanding officer of the USS Valley Forge, once based at Naval Base San Diego.

Aside from his assignment in Coronado, the rear admiral also served in Newport, RI, Guantanamo Bay and at the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Naval War College, and in his final post, in Puerto Rico as Commander, South Atlantic Forces.

In his retirement, the father of two established a management consulting firm, which worked with General Dynamics, and headed the commissioning committee for the USS Ramage. The long-time Rotarian settled in New Hampshire.

Services are planned for Friday Aug. 2 in New London, NH. The family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
