Betty Jane Nelson, a Mt. Vernon, WA. resident who once worked at the Hotel del Coronado and had several San Diego ties, died June 4 following a fall, according to Legacy.com. She was 86.
The Boise, ID. native became an amateur pilot in her youth and always practiced her singing, a lifelong love which she nurtured in various Episcopal, Lutheran and Methodist churches as director of handbell choirs for all ages.
As a professional, she worked as an office manager at the Hotel del Coronado, for the Navy and at the University of San Diego, among other local employers. In addition to Coronado, she also lived in Point Loma and Old Town locally.
The mother of four lost her son Brian in March. Later in life, as she cared for him, she learned to make Bible bookmarks and distributed them widely.
Services will be July 13 in Mt. Vernon, WA.
