Bernard H. West, 79, Vietnam Vet and Ex-Coronado Resident, Dies

The Texas resident served four tours in Vietnam. His family settled in Coronado during his daughters' childhoods.

Bernard H. West, a Waco resident who lived in Coronado while in the Navy, died Sunday, according to Legacy.com. He was 79.

The Pottsville, PA. native moved to Texas after high school to attend St. Edward's University. He then served in the Army. 

Seven years later, after securing an officer's commission, he began his naval career. He served in Vietnam, including the evacuation of Saigon, and remained in the Navy until 1978. After his retirement, he returned to Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, two daughters and four grandchildren.
His services were Wednesday.
