World Record Swim Attempt for Navy SEAL Foundation

Members of Night Train Swimmers will attempt a 228-mile open water swim from Point Conception, CA to San Diego to raise money for the Navy SEAL Foundation, the nonprofit announced Wednesday.

If the co-ed relay team succeeds they will surpass the world record by more than 20 miles. The attempt to break the world record will be observed and documented by members of the World Open Water Swimming Association.

“Night Train has a long history of raising money for deserving organizations. We are proud to partner with the Navy SEAL Foundation for this swim and to finish at the San Diego Yacht Club, near their headquarters at Coronado Island,” said team captain and Vietnam veteran Vito Bialla in a statement. “Supporting our Navy SEALs and their families is a great honor.”

Medal of Honor recipients will accompany the swimmers to the finish line near Coronado: Mike Thornton, a highly decorated Navy SEAL; and Bob Kerrey, former Governor of Nebraska and United States Senator.

All six members of the team, some of whom have swam the English Channel, are from California.

Runner Mike Trevino will run more than 300 miles from Point Conception to San Diego to greet the swimmers when they land on shore.
