Kitchen Must-Haves Part 4

A kitchen staple that looks pretty on the counter and is helpful in all types of cooking.

My final "big" kitchen must-have is the big guy. Most people know it as simply a "KitchenAid." I'm talking, of course, about a stand-up mixer. Here's why it's a staple in the kitchen.

Stand-up Mixer: They're at the top of every wedding registry, and for good reason. They're the key to baking and just look pretty sitting out on the counter. They've been around forever and help out immensely in the kitchen.

Things I whip up in my mixer:

  • Mashed potatoes: Not sure if they're considered mashed after using the mixer on them, but potatoes come out so creamy and fluffy when whipped up in this machine. Use the paddle attachment for "mashing." Throw in a tablespoon of butter, dump in the cubed and boiled potatoes and turn on low. Slowly pour into cream as it mixes until you have the desired consistency. Don't forget to salt and pepper!
  • Cheesecake: Best cheesecake recipe ever? Right here. The variations are endless and a mixer makes it super easy.
  • Whipped Cream: Give your wrists a break and let the mixer do all the work. Try out my--so good!
  • Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies: I'm still in search for the perfect cookie recipe, so I'll gladly take suggestions in the comment box below! But cookies are easy and fun with a stand-up mixer.

Next up, I'll have some smaller kitchen must-haves that can fit in the drawer.

What's a must have in your kitchen?
