Community Joins Navy's Holiday Revels
North Island staged a concert and screened a film and Coronado was invited.
Naval Base Coronado held its second annual Christmas concert Saturday, headed by the Navy Region Southwest Band, complete with Santa Claus, a classic holiday film and a reading of the “Night Before Christmas.”
"This is the time of year for everyone to get together and to enjoy the season with friends, family and acquaintances,” said Captain Yancy B. Lindsey, base commander.
Capt. Lindsey got into the spirit himself by reading the classic poem – with its famous lines about creatures not stirring and stockings being hung with care – as the Navy band played in the background. This was the band’s only Christmas concert. Last year was its first ever on a Navy base.

“We would do one on every base if people asked us,” said Lt. Mark K. Corbliss, the band’s conductor. “It’s kind of sad. We learn all this great music and only get to play it once.”
Opening up the party to Coronado was an easy idea to embrace, according to Lindsey.
