Sierra Club Suspends Local Chapter for 4 Years

The Sierra Club has not officially revealed details of problems within the San Diego organization. However, a recent letter to members cited strife within the chapter and loss of volunteers.

The national Sierra Club Board of Directors voted overwhelmingly Friday to suspend its San Diego chapter for four years because of conflicts within the group.

The suspension, which came on a 13-1 vote with one abstention, will result in the replacement of the San Diego chapter's executive board, national club spokesman Mark Westlund told City News Service.

He said a search committee was established to recommend candidates for a new local executive board, which would be confirmed by national directors of the environmental group.
