Each year, CoSA students earn local and national awards, from the Old Globe Honors and National Youth Arts awards to the Red Rock Film Festival “Audience Favorite.” CoSA’s faculty also garners awards; last year two teachers, Gina Sorensen and Kim Strassburger, were awarded National Artist Teacher Fellowships, taking them to New York and Oxford, England to study modern dance and Shakespeare, respectively.

COSA’s students have gone on to the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, Berklee School of Music, UCLA and the UCLA School of Theatre, Film and Television, Northwestern, Stanford, USC, NYU, and many others. CoSA’s students are trained and prepared to work in their artistic fields, and their unique, inquiring minds with a desire to create are in demand in today’s highly competitive college applicant pool.

CoSA has been called San Diego County’s premier arts conservatory and is the winner of numerous prestigious arts awards including the California State 2009 Golden Bell for Visual and Performing Arts, was one of five National Outstanding Arts Schools in 2010, and received a National Music Education Merit Award in 2013 for exemplary support of music education in the United States. Coronado High School was named a California Distinguished School in 2011 and honored with an Exemplary Career Technical Education Award, in large part due to CoSA’s programs of school-to-career instruction.
