USS Ronald Reagan's Crew Returns Home
Sailors greet new babies and loved ones of all ages as the carrier makes it way back to North Island after 7 months at sea.
The USS Ronald Reagan returned to North Island Naval Air Station Friday morning to throngs of well-wishers.
Their deployment took the crew to the Middle East and off the coast of Japan, where sailors aided in risky relief efforts after the March disasters that befell the island of Honshu.
When the carrier's commanding officer, Capt. Thom Burke, was asked in advance of the return if it was special for the crew to have a homecoming so close to the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, he said it was important for them, despite their youth.

“Some are too young to really remember 9/11, yet they have that patriotism, that spirit,” Burke said.
