Hundreds of Coronado residents have power again after an underground electrical system failed Sunday night.

The power outage occurred at 10:54 p.m. and blackened most of the eastern side of Coronado, said Erin Coller, a spokeswoman for SDG&E. The outage initially affected 2,422 customers, and later affected 489 residents in the Coronado Cays neighborhood, as well as some residents in the Coronado Shores condominium complex on Strand Way.

“We have crews working on restoring service for those remaining customers,” Coller said Monday morning.

Repair crews had to replace nearly 900 feet of underground cable, SDG&E spokeswoman Allison Zaragoza said. She said an additional 250 customers lost power temporarily while crews worked on the cable.
