High Surf Expected This Week

The effects of a South Pacific storm will hit in time for the holiday weekend.

A high-surf advisory will go into effect at county beaches later today as a southwest swell that originated from a powerful storm near New Zealand reaches Southern California.

The advisory will be in force from 5 p.m. today through 5 p.m. Friday,
according to the National Weather Service.

“The greatest size and largest surf and swell (will be) Thursday
and Friday,” the agency said.

“The surf will gradually lower over the weekend, but still remain above
average with strong rip currents both Saturday and Sunday,” according to the weather service.
