Update: Driver Accused in Bridge Road Rage Crash Pleads Not Guilty

The crash left two people injured. The driver is being held on $250,000 bail.

Update 4:25 p.m. Wednesday: Phillip Eggers had bail set at $250,000 four days after he was arrested on felony charges stemming from Saturday's injury crash on the San Diego-Coronado Bridge. He entered a plea of not
guilty to three felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon.

A 24-year-old man accused of using his car to ram a motorcycle in a road-rage incident on the Coronado bridge, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Phillip Michael Eggers, of El Cajon, got into a dispute with the motorcyclist on the westbound side of the bridge at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

As the motorcycle traveled next to Eggers' blue BMW M3, the suspect allegedly veered sharply to the left, sending the bike and two people on it crashing to the ground, CHP public-affairs Officer Tommy Doerr said.

Eggers continued driving into Coronado, followed by an off-duty San Diego police officer who witnessed the collision, Doerr said. The suspect soon pulled to a stop on Glorietta Boulevard, where the officer confronted him and held him at gunpoint until Coronado police arrived.

Eggers was being held without bail pending arraignment. The victim's injuries were not considered life-threatening.
