Coronado High School remembers the old each year as it celebrates the new - the 262 soon-to-be freshly minted graduates of CHS.

Fifty years ago the class of 1963 looked to their futures and 43 of them shared the field with the class of 2013 Wednesday as CHS hosted its 98th commencement.

The ceremony began at about 7:30 p.m. and the processional has taken place, with the speakers to come.

They are valedictorian Wright Smith along with salutatorians Ryan Halvorson and Maude Hoffman and senior class president Brittany Withouski. Mayor Casey Tanaka, an Advanced Placement history teacher at the school, delivered the keynote.

Among the top award winners for the graduating class are Halvorson, Smith, Brooke Gensler, Ryanne Giorgione, Mary Grace Braun and Camille Wilson.
