Blackout in Coronado

A power outage on Thursday night affects more than 1,200 homes and businesses in and around Coronado.

A power outage Thursday night left more than 1,200 homes and businesses in and around Coronado without electricity. Power was restored to many customers early Friday morning. But as of 7 a.m., about 445 addresses are still without power, authorities reported.

The blackout began around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and was apparently caused by a problem with overhead transmission equipment, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.

The utility company reported that Naval Air Station North Island, nearby 32nd Street Naval Station and parts of Tijuana River Valley Regional Park were among the areas affected by the outage.

But the blackout hasn’t stalled preparations for the Angelic Dolan, a spokesperson for the Navy, said on Friday morning that plans were under way and on track.

SDG&E said they plan to have all affected customers back on line by late morning.
