Ann Allred, 75, Dies; the Navy Brought Her Family to Coronado

The mother of five, of Del Mar, settled with her family in Coronado for a time, but fell in love with San Diego and set down roots in the region.

Ann Allred, 75, wife of a Navy veteran who became a Del Mar real estate developer, died Monday May 20 of Lou Gehrig's Disease, according to Legacy.com.

The mother of five and grandmother of 14, who hailed from Pasadena and also had roots in Burlingame and Phoenix, married Doug Allred in 1957.

He served as an officer on an underwater demolition team that was a precursor to Navy SEAL Team 5, work that brought the family to Coronado, according to the report.

The local move fostered a love for greater San Diego where the couple began a business, the Douglas Allred Company. The family supported several charities, including the Navy Special Warfare Family Foundation.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday May 30 at the Chuch of the Nativity, 6309 El Apajo Road, Rancho Santa Fe. May 30 is Ann Allred's birthday.
