New Spike in Gas Prices Blamed on Refinery Failure

The average price in the county went up by five cents Wednesday.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County recorded its largest daily increase since Feb. 23 Wednesday, rising 5.8 cents to $4.236, its highest amount since June 1.

The average price has risen for five consecutive days and is 11.5 cents more than one week ago, 8.6 cents higher than one month ago and 40.7 cents greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The increases since Monday are the result of a power failure at the Torrance Exxon refinery that may cause it to flare gases for a week, reducing the supply, Marie Montgomery Nordhues of the Automobile Club of Southern California told City News Service.

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
