Leader No. 24: Brian Grover is Mr. Outside—with Bike Lanes Among His Credits

The 29-year-old multi-sport fan serves on Encinitas city panels to give back to the environment.

Brian Grover is one person bicyclists can thank for safe roads.

The 29-year-old was instrumental in getting the city of Encinitas to install shared lanes along Coast Highway 101. Though he works full time as an environmental manager for Dudek, he also serves on the Encinitas Environmental Commission and the Encinitas Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee.

“I’ve always had a love of the outdoors, and my lifestyle is reflective of that,” Grover said. “In my free time I’m either surfing, stand-up paddling, biking, running, sailing, snowboarding or doing just about anything to keep me outside.

“My passion for outdoor activities has, over time, translated into a growing desire to preserve the natural environment for future generations, as well as improve our built environment to encourage active lifestyles.”

Inspired by people “who lead by example,” he said his biggest accomplishment is being able to pursue a career he’s passionate about.

Advice for young people:

“Follow your passion in life and don’t let anything slow you down. Be persistent. Enlist community support for the causes that you are passionate about—you might be surprised how many other people share your vision and are eager to help. And most importantly, recognize that good leadership takes strength of character and a firm commitment to the cause. This will be natural if you are pursuing something that you enjoy.”
