Gas Prices Set Holiday Record

The price though is far below the overall high set in October.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose to a record amount for Christmas for the third consecutive year, increasing two-tenths of a cent to $3.583, erasing the previous record of $3.563 set last year.

Prices are typically lower in the winter than the summer, when higher demand pushes prices up. .

The record came despite decreases for 74 of the previous 77 days that dropped the price to its lowest amount since Dec. 27, 2011, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 2.2 cents less than one week ago and 19.6 cents lower than one month ago, but 2 cents more than one year ago.
