Average Gas Price Drops to Lowest Level in Months

Gas prices in Coronado Wednesday were 73 cents higher than the San Diego County average.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped to its lowest amount since May 7 Wednesday, decreasing eight-tenths of a cent to $3.913.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday the cheapest gas in Coronado could be found at the Valero station at the corner of 4th Street and Orange Avenue for $4.39. 76 station at the corner of 9th Street and Orange Avenue has a gallon of regular unleaded for $4.89.

Naval Exchange prices tell a different story. A gallon of regular unleaded at the Naval Exchange at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado goes for $3.79.

The same price is available at the Naval Exchange at Naval Air Station North Island.

The average price has decreased for 22 consecutive days and is 6 cents less than one week ago, 14 cents less than one month ago and 17.4 cents below what is was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has dropped 16.7 cents over the past 22 days, including six-tenths of a cent on Tuesday.

"The decreasing prices are the result of wholesale prices backing down when supply issues in California did not materialize as feared," Marie Montgomery of the Automobile Club of Southern California told City News Service.
