Man Allegedly Attempted to Run Over Officer – Twice

The man was arrested and accused of using his vehicle as a weapon to try and run over a member of the Coronado Police Department.

While attempting to tow a man's car for expired registration, a Police Services Officer with the Coronado Police Department was allegedly targeted by the car's owner, who allegedly tried two times to drive over the officer, according to police spokeswoman Lea Corbin.

Jeffrey Mueller, 32, will have an arraignment hearing Wednesday in the South County Courthouse.

The incident occurred June 5 around 1:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Ocean Boulevard.

The officer contacted the man to get more information before a tow truck arrived, at which time Mueller became "uncooperative and argumentative," Corbin said.

"She was in front of the car doing the paperwork on the registration when he got in the car and moved it. She did not jump in front of the car," Corbin said.

While continuing to argue with the officer, Mueller allegedly opened his Jeep, placed his dog in the car and twice attempted to hit the officer with his car.

Both times the officer was able to jump out of the path of the Jeep, Corbin said.

After the second attempt to hit the officer Mueller fled. Officers caught up with him roughly 10 blocks away in the 400 block of Alameda Boulevard where he was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, not firearm.

"They take a lot of abuse. They're just trying to do their jobs," said police spokeswoman Lea Corbin.

The car was later towed, she said.
