Until the moment when the lights dim and the initial thump of bass kicks on, the Village Theater feels lost in time.
Guests are greeted at the front door by a manager decked out in a pinstriped suit with matching hat and leather shoes. The authentic popcorn machine and water fountains in the lounge area are surrounded with multi-colored spotlights.
The art deco design of the carpet and the plush feel of each seat add to the nostalgia brought on by the murals of the Hotel del Coronado and the San Diego skyline sparkling at night.
Walk through an evening spent at the Village, as city residents, leaders, businessmen and workers share in the theater's debut screenings, which featured documentaries on the project, Precious Images, an Oscar-winning short film, and 3-D previews of Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Captain America.
