Antonel, Velvet Cafe Band's Singer, Competes on Fox 5 Saturday

Stacy Antonel, who's been wowing Coronado crowds, will go head-to-head with other local artists on Fox 5 San Diego talent show to air at 7 p.m.

Stacy Antonel, the vocalist from Velvet Café who has developed quite a local following, was selected to appear on “3 Minutes to Stardom” on Fox 5 San Diego for a chance to win $10,000 and a shot at a recording contract.

In a performance taped at Valley View Casino Friday, airing on Fox at 7 p.m. Saturday, she vied with eight other contestants. Two will be selected to advance to the quarterfinals.

Judges will select one performer, while the second will be chosen by text and online votes.

Antonel said she will sing “White Rabbit,” a song made famous by the Jefferson Airplane in the 1960’s.

Judges included radio personalities Delana Bennett from Star 94.1, Ashlee of Rock 105.3, and music writer David Good, whose work appears in the San Diego Reader.

Thus far 24 singers have been selected for the quarterfinals, which will be held early next year. The final round will be held March 1, 2013.

The total number of votes collected through the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will determine the winner.

This is Antonel's second attempt to advance her career by entering a television talent contest. Earlier this year she snagged a first-round audition with “The Voice” on NBC; she didn't make it to the show, which features stars Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton, but said she may try again next year.

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
