Fall TV – It's Here!

Jiggle TV is back with a reboot of 'Charlie's Angels' and new period dramas 'Pan Am' and 'The Playboy Club.'

Fall traditionally ushers in a host of new television shows, and this year is no exception. Starting this week, and through November, old favorites along with new shows premiere almost nightly, as strapped networks attempt to woo back loyal viewers.

With retro shows trying to fill the void left by Mad Men's production delay and a variety of new sitcoms, the networks are hoping to cater to a wide range of palettes by serving up programs following a time-honored tradition: something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.

Three new series hearken back to the racy '60s and '70s; reality shows have called back previous contestants, and a bevy of young newcomers in tight-fitting blue uniforms step up to round out the fall TV schedule.

The Playboy Club: Hugh Hefner's bunnies come out to play in this '60's drama set in a morally-challenged society when getting a key to the most exclusive club in Chicago gave the holder access to the ultimate in beauty (and unlocked connections to the mob). 10 PM, Monday, NBC

Charlie’s Angels: An updated series based on the not-so-old one. (Remember Jiggle TV? The phrase refers to the attributes of the original Angels cast.) Drew Barrymore co-produces this reboot, set in Miami, and staring Annie Ilonseh as Kate, Rachel Taylor as Abby, Minka Kelly as Marisa, and Robert Wagner as Charlie. 8 PM, Sept. 21 ABC

Pan Am: Starring Christina Ricci, this crew of strong women in tailored 1960’s light blue uniforms and white gloves take to the skies and discover they can have it all: glamour, Cold War-style espionage, and the most coveted job of the time: stewardesses in the Jet Age. 10 PM Sept. 25 ABC

Crowd Pleasers

Dancing with the Stars: Chaz Bono (Sonny and Cher’s child) is the first transgender contestant on the show. The sixth season of DWTS also brings out another Kardashian, younger brother Rob.  8 PM Monday, ABC

Modern Family: Back for a third year, this hilarious award-winning show features untraditional upper middle-class couples fumbling through the conventional problems of ordinary families. It’s one of the best family-friendly television shows around. 9 PM (one-hour premiere) Sept. 21, ABC

Last Man Standing: Tim Allen returns to television as sporting goods salesman Mike Baxter in a comedy about a lone man in a predominantly female household, which includes his wife and three daughters. 8 PM Oct. 11, ABC

Reality TV

Survivor: South Pacific: Does the name Russel Hantz sound familiar? He won't be back this season, but his nephew, Brandon Hantz, 19, is, along with two former Survivor contestants: Coach and Ozzy of Survivor: Cook Islands. The usually family-friendly show is often caught with its pants down – literally. Be advised, lots of cleavage and partially exposed behinds have made regular appearances. Season Premier 8 PM Wednesday, CBS

Amazing Race: This season has cancer survivor Ethan Zhon from Survivor: Africa and girlfriend Jenna Morasca, winner of Survivor: The
Amazon,
competing next to seemingly ordinary people like Zac Sunderland, 19, and his father. Zac is the youngest person to sail around the world8 PM Sept. 24, CBS

The Real World: The 26th season of this MTV staple was filmed in La Jolla over the summer. What did the posh city do to deserve this (dis)honor? This year’s party animals include Alexandra Govere who graduated from high school at 14 and attended Stanford University.  Sept. 28 MTV
