The Man Who Came to Dinner

Coronado, CA.  The Man Who Came To Dinner by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, acknowledged as one of the funniest comedies ever written, is coming to the Coronado Playhouse stage June 29 - August 5, 2012.

  • "Johnson plays the curmudgeon with the requisite emotional size, gaudy verbal style, and some of the most deliciously smoldering slow-takes on record." Jeff Smith, San Diego Reader

  • "…not a beat is lost on (Yeager's) attention to details in this period classic. In addition, the unbelievably wonderful and luscious costumes by Jeanne Reith are simply mouthwatering. Matt Scott designed the Stanley cottage that has all the trappings of upper class tenants." Carol Davis, San Diego Theater Examiner

When a freak accident on the Stanley family’s Ohio doorstep lands venomous theater critic Sheridan Whiteside in a wheelchair, the house is under siege from his extended reign of terror. Hysteria runs rampant as the convalescing curmudgeon interferes, blackmails, lies and runs roughshod over everyone.

This lighthearted romp features Phil Johnson, the prolific and hilarious San Diego favorite, as the acerbic Sheridan Whiteside. The show is helmed by San Diego director, Ruff Yeager, who assembled an award-winning team. “This is a great opportunity,” states Phil Johnson. “Many of us have never worked together before. I believe this mutual outreach benefits all of us in the local theatre world. Thanks to Coronado Playhouse for bringing us all together.”
