Before, to like something simply meant to convey one’s attitude, attraction, or feelings towards something or someone. Before, like was defined as ‘to be suitable or agreeable to’ or ‘to wish to have’. But now, the word takes on a whole new connotation. Facebook has introduced a fresh and creative phenomenon of networking, in which to “like” something merely consists of pushing a button. If you like what someone says, if you can relate to a quote, if you find a photograph funny, or if you just want to show that someone is your favorite artist or musician, all it takes is one click.

This one click is like a rope dipped in gasoline when it catches fire. The subject spreads from one friend to another, appears on one group and then another, becomes the message on one status and then another. The “like” button holds a power unmet by other methods of advertising.

The Undiscovered Gallery, a recently new addition to this network, asks for your support. Many artists rely on the pure hands-on activity of painting, drawing, or molding; other artists better serve their vision through technical qualities computer programs possess and the rather instantaneous result they receive. Regardless, artists need the support of the public. We, as artists, look to share our artwork with the world, we look for reactions in the viewer, we look for acknowledgement and critique, we look for an environment that lives and breathes art in the same way we do.

Now is a better time as any to hit that like button. This Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Undiscovered Gallery, there will be a captivating atmosphere for those who are interested in witnessing it. Coronado is holding it’s Fourth Friday Open Gallery Night and would be thrilled to see people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests come together and take the time to show that you like what we’re about.

Refreshments and music on the patio, as well as marvelous contemporary art hanging in the executive suites, calls for celebration. Join us in Coronado Plaza at 1330 Orange Avenue, to bear witness to such gifted beings. Once you visit our gallery, you’ll without a doubt be in like.
