Classic 4 Kids' Executive Director, Founder Marion Scire Retires After 20 Years

San Diego County nonprofit organization, Classics 4 Kids, today announced that after an exemplary career spanning 20 years as founder and Executive Director of Classics 4 Kids, Coronado resident Marion Scire will retire on April 30, 2014. Scire founded Classics 4 Kids in 1994 to enhance the music education program at her daughter’s school by organizing a fundraiser and piano recital attended by its 600 students.

Over the past 20 years, Scire has grown Classics 4 Kids into a high-impact educational performing arts nonprofit dedicated to improving academic performance by providing in-class music education programs combined with offsite professional orchestra performances inspiring more than 300,000 local students and teachers.

“Carrying out the important mission of Classics 4 Kids has been my heart and soul focus for the past twenty years, and I am proud of the positive impacts we have had on so many deserving students,” said Scire. “I can retire knowing that the organization is well-positioned to continue providing and expanding its music education and experiential learning programs to students throughout San Diego County whose core music programs have been cut.”

“Marion’s tenure with Classics 4 Kids has been a time of programmatic excellence, significant growth and mission achievement,” said Holly Smith Jones, Board Chair of Classics 4 Kids. “We will miss her dedicated service to the students and families of San Diego County and wish her much happiness in the next phase of her life’s journey.” A transition plan has been put in place to be followed with a leadership announcement slated for early May.

A nonprofit pioneer in San Diego County, Scire has been honored by the San Diego Business Journal with a “Women Who Mean Business” Award and by KGTV Channel 10 Television with a 10News Leadership Award. In March of 2013, the San Diego Unified School District’s Board of Education issued a proclamation recognizing Scire´ for her “continual work to improve music and arts education for all San Diego County students.”
