Update: Broadway San Diego Season to Begin in March

Productions include the Green Day inspired 'American Idiot' and long-time hit 'Chicago.'

The Broadway San Diego 2012-13 season will kick off March 27, Nederlander of San Diego has announced.

The season will feature the launch of national tours of Chicago, starring Christie Brinkley, on May 8, and Jekyll & Hyde on Oct. 2. It is the first time two national shows will start in San Diego in the same season, according to Nederlander.

Other planned stage shows are Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby, La Cage Aux Faux starring George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber, Billy Elliott: The Musical and American Idiot.

Also on tap are performances by Rain, the Beatles tribute group, and Les Miserables.

Four shows remain in the 2011-12 calendar – which will overlap the 2012-13 season: Rock of Ages!, March 27-April 1; The Addams Family, May 29- June 3; Wicked, June 20-July 15; and Memphis, July 24-29.

All shows will be at the Civic Theatre at 1100 Third Ave., San Diego.
