Approximately 2,400 San Diego Gas & Electric customers in Coronado lost power Thursday, according to the utility.

The power went out for 96 customers at 7:44 a.m. and 2,325 customers at 8:02 a.m.

"Service was restored to all but five customers around 8:45 a.m. We expect full restoration of those five customers around 11 a.m.," said Gina Jacobs with SDG&E.

The Thursday morning outage appears to have been caused by an equipment failure, she said.

A power outage impacted thousands of residents, businesses and the City of Coronado Wednesday when power failed due to a faulty underground cable, Jacobs said.

"That outage initially impacted 3,200 customers. There was a partial restoration within 15 minutes at 12:33 p.m.reducing the customers affected to 1,772. That was further reduced with a second restoration at 1:48 p.m. Those remaining 1,442 customers were restored by 7 p.m. last night," she said.
